Not all broken glass breaks the same way
How a pane fails tells you what hit it, and what has to go back in.
Annealed glass, the plain single-pane kind still found in older Florida homes, cracks and leaves large sharp pieces behind. It is the most dangerous to clear and the simplest to replace.
Tempered glass does the opposite. It holds until it does not, then fails instantly and completely into thousands of small blunt fragments. Nothing is left in the frame. People often assume something catastrophic happened, when tempered glass can fail from a small edge impact or even a manufacturing inclusion.
Laminated impact glass is different again. Struck hard, it cracks in a spiderweb pattern but stays in the frame, held by the plastic interlayer between the panes. That is exactly what it is designed to do, and it is why a damaged impact window still keeps the weather out. It still needs replacing, but you are not exposed in the meantime.
Which of those you have determines how urgent the job is, how it gets cleared, and what specification has to go back in — particularly if the opening is one that was protected to begin with.
After a storm it is worth having a whole elevation checked rather than only the pane that obviously failed. Sealed units that held can still have taken damage that shows up as fogging weeks later.
The first job is making the building safe and closed
When a pane goes, the instinct is to ask how fast it can be replaced. The more useful question is how fast it can be made safe, because those are different jobs happening in a different order.
Glass is cut to the opening, so a genuine like-for-like replacement is almost never same-hour work — and if the opening requires impact-rated glass, the lead time is longer still. What is same-visit is clearing the broken glass, taking loose fragments out of the frame, and boarding or filming the opening so the building is closed.
In Florida that second part carries real weight. An open window means wind-driven rain into the room, humidity into the structure, and an unsecured building. During hurricane season it can also mean a compromised envelope on a house that is about to take another storm.

Outside storm season it is mowers, trimmers, thrown stones and sports. Ground-floor windows facing a lawn or driveway take the overwhelming majority of it.
Thermal stress in constant heat
Not every crack has an impact behind it. Sun on part of a pane and shade on the rest creates enough differential expansion to split glass on its own, and Florida's sustained solar load makes it more common here than most owners expect.

Can you replace the glass the same day?
Rarely, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise. Glass is cut to your opening, and impact-rated glass takes longer again. What we can do quickly is clear the glass and secure the opening.
My impact window cracked but did not fall out.
That is exactly what laminated glass is designed to do — the interlayer holds the pieces in place, so the building stays closed. It still needs replacing, but you are not exposed while you wait.
A storm broke several windows. Do you handle that?
Yes, and after a named storm it is worth having the whole elevation checked rather than just the obvious breakages.
Someone broke in through the window. Can you repair the frame too?
Yes, and you should. A new pane in a bent frame with a forced latch is not a secure window. We repair both.
